Blog Aug 29 2016 - Trying to build your personal “Brand”
Many of us don't focus on building a "personal brand", but maybe we should. This includes your preferences, choices, involvements, online presence and relationships you keep. Some experts in the area of personal brand building have a few suggestions on how to enhance your "personal brand":
1. Brand yourself for the long road.
Your personal brand can be a huge undertaking that can help maximize opportunities you are pursuing. So, try setting up different branding avenues to help brand yourself separately.
2. Be real. Not fake.
Try not to manufacture an alter ego. There should be no “fake it until you make it”. If you only want to appear as a show, that will be exposed. Authenticity is about showing your imperfections and including your weaknesses
3. Be a thought leader.
Thought leadership refers to a leader within an industry recognized as authorities that are trusted within their areas. They are looked upon for advice and guidance. A company’s top executives, for example, can act as a thought leaders, however, that is not the case at times. Meaning people in a leadership position do not always lead.
4. Have a plan behind the brand.
It is important to approach this strategically so have a blueprint laying out how marketing and public relations factor into your plan. This all helps you focus on the task at hand.
